Recreational Opportunities at River’s Edge
Coeur d’Alene Lake and the Spokane River provide tremendous recreational opportunities for the local residents as well as for visitors to the Coeur d’Alene area. During the summer, local vendors rent boats and paddle boards, offer parasailing adventures and rent paddle-boarding gear. You can take a lake cruise out of the resort, go inner-tubing on the Coeur d’Alene River, and go fishing on St. Joe.
If being directly on the water is not quite your style, the lake and river still provide attractive vistas for visitors who just want to relax at Sanders Beach or McEuen Park, hike Tubbs Hill, golf the Coeur d’Alene resort course, walk the Centennial Trail, or enjoy the park at Atlas Mill. And there are several favorite swimming spots along the river, as well, in Q’emiln Park, Atlas Beach, Black Bay, and NIC beach.
Along the Spokane River, there are several marinas for local residents to keep their boats, notably the Hagadone Marina near Lake Coeur d’Alene, and Templin’s Marina or Tobler Marina at the Post Falls end of the upper river. However, most of the docks along the river are attached to private homes.
Residents Will Be Able to Rent Boat Slips to Access the River and Lake
This part of Idaho is truly beautiful, but the attraction is not just what you can see, but being able to engage in fun activities within this natural setting. The Spokane River, especially, is a real playground for water lovers, and the River’s Edge development wants to make the most of its location by expanding the recreational opportunities on the property for both its residents and the public at large.
Instead of building 28 single-family homes along the riverfront with only two small lots providing about 100 feet of public access, River’s Edge has put forth a proposal to change the current plans and give the public access to the entire riverfront on its 26-acre parcel. The plan would provide increased recreational facilities for the apartment residents as well as the public.
Similar to the area along and to the west of Atlas Mill Park, the river at that part of Coeur d’Alene is actually a steep drop from the portion of land that is being graded for the apartment buildings. In order to access the beach and protect the integrity of the property, the new proposal provides for a sea wall along the riverfront, with four designated beach areas inset from the sea wall. At each of these access points, there will be steps down to the beach, and patios at the upper level with seating areas and picnic tables.
The upper level will be adjacent to a 16-foot wide public pathway that traverses the entire property, with plenty of shaded areas along the pathway from the native trees that will be planted there. A 40-foot-wide portion of the parcel from the river inland will be dedicated to public use and access, with an additional 40-foot deep portion providing an amphitheater-style seating area with a water feature, giving people a place to sit and view the river and the mountains opposite.
Along the riverfront, between the beach areas, the revised plan allows for the building of docks. This will be a unique feature of the River’s Edge apartment complex, giving apartment residents the opportunity to rent a boat slip within walking distance of their residence. No other rental property in the area offers this unique amenity; currently, it is reserved only for the fortunate few who can afford to purchase a riverfront home.
By providing docks, the River’s Edge development will truly be a water-lover’s dream location, with riverfront living, beaches, trail access, and boating opportunities, but without the hefty price tag of a riverfront home.
We are excited that we will be able to offer this type of resort-style living to renters in the Post Falls/Coeur d’Alene area if our proposal is approved by the City of Coeur d’Alene. This property is truly special, and we want to do whatever we can to make it attractive, fun, and family-friendly. We hope you will support our vision, and express to the City of Coeur d’Alene that you are in favor of our proposal. For more information, please review the information on our website.
